Simply Being

Do you ever look at the world around you and think about it? The way colors and shapes mix and converge creating a picture for us to see. Do you ever think about the way the world operates and how fast we are moving along in this tide of technology?
The way it was for my grandmother growing up is far in the past. While she was driving a buggy to a one room schoolhouse, we are driving our BMWs with music pumping to a multi-thousand student high school. It amazes me how much has changed in the past 100 years... how much our world will change in the future. I love to speculate on what I myself will be thinking when I am nearing 90. Will I laugh at how excited we are that the new iphone 5 is coming out, or that an improved electrical-motorized car is now on the market?
Few people stop to think on these things as they rush to the next event. The next meeting, phone call, party. People are so busy being caught up in the "sheer bloody panic" of not being up to date in the newest and greatest, that they often forget to stop and think, ponder, enjoy a moment. They are to frantic to notice that a moment, an hour, a day has gone by while they are looking at tomorrow. They have lost the chance to enjoy life.
I think that is one of the problems in American society. We do not have time to enjoy the little things in life. The moment, however fleeting, when we look at an object, person or event and glean something from it. The lessons and personality we would encounter in simply living a life of moments would be timeless. Much more important than waiting for a text message or floating around in our little bubble.
Many cultures around the world practice the art of peace, tranquility and just being. Yoga, meditation, ect are ways of life for many and ways to stop time for a moment and just breathe. To focus on the little things. The way the wind feels through your hair. The way the sun kisses your skin. The far-away music of a nightingale. These stolen moments are like a boost to your mind, body and soul. They rejuvenate you so you are ready to take on the next stress in your life. They help cleanse and refresh a tired brain by making worries fade and a new kind of vibrancy creep in.
So my thought for you today is: Have you taken a moment to live??
